Marshall County tennis players win opening round matches at State Tennis Tournament

Kian Court and Rush Robinson in doubles and JC Wells in singles, advanced to the round of 32 at the State Tennis Tournament.

The KHSAA State Tennis Tournament was held May 31-June 2. Marshall County’s JC Wells in singles and the doubles team of Kian Court and Rush Robinson played in the tournament and all advanced to the second round.

JC beat Fitzpatrick of Knott County Central High School 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the round of 32. There she played McCracken County’s Lilli Smith and lost 0-6, 0-6. Smith advanced to the round of 16 where her state tournament run ended.

Sacred Heart’s Hammond won the singles state title 6-0, 7-5 over teammate Shallcross. The girls’ doubles state title went to Herring and Nova from Henry Clay.

Kian and Rush opened their state tournament with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bingham and Abner of Knox Central. In the round of 32, they lost 0-6, 0-6 to Maguet and Koen of Corbin. Maguet and Koen advanced to the quarter finals.

St. Xavier’s Bush and Scanlan won the double state title and Stephenson of St. Xavier won the singles championship.
