Thomas “Tinker” Stevenson, 91, of Calvert City, Kentucky passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Center.
Thomas was born on November 24,1929 in Calvert City, Kentucky to the late Tommie Edison and Ollie Mae Russell Stevenson. In 1949 he married the love of his life, Dottie Greer Stevenson and the two of them remained happily married for 69 years.
Tinker was a farmer, gunsmith and ironworker/operator. He worked out of Operators Local # 181 and Ironworkers Locals #595 and #782 . He was a very proud, founding member of the Calvert City Gun Club (1960) where he was part of the 5 man team that won the state championship several times. He also won many individual state championships down through the years. He was part of the 20 gauge team that won the state title the only time the division was held. He was a member of the Kentucky Skeet Shooting Association. He also had a love of music playing guitar, harmonica, banjo and fiddle. He enjoyed playing in a band with his brothers. You could hear their music many nights from the Calvert Drive In. It is said that they would turn down the sound and listen to the harmony coming from this family band. He was also an avid UK Wildcats fan and loved to hunt in all seasons.
He is survived by four daughters, Veda Parrott (Jerry Don) of Calvert City, Martha Sue Baldree (Randie) of Mayfield, Teresa Ann Ford (Lonnie) of Calvert City, and Charlotte Stevenson of Calvert City; four sons, Daryl Stevenson, Barry Stevenson (Teresa), Jody Stevenson (Shelli), and Bruce Stevenson (Sharon), all of Calvert City; one sister, Francis Brown of Calvert City; one brother, Rudell Stevenson of Calvert City; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 5 great -great-grandchildren; and 3 step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his five brothers, Archie Ray Russell, Frank Edison “Doodle” Stevenson, Clifton Stevenson, Milton Stevenson, and James Edward Stevenson; a great grandchild Paige Hubbard; and his parents.
Arrangements are being handled by Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021, at Filbeck -Cann Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Short officiating. Burial will follow at Calvert City Cemetery.
