
Marshall County swept the district double-header against Mayfield on Tuesday. Both wins were shutouts – the Lady Marshals winning 10-0 and the Marshals 6-0. The girls improve to 4-1-1 while the boys remain undefeated at 7-0.
The Lady Marshals put an early end to their game, scoring the 10th goal less than five minutes into the second half after leading 8-0 at halftime.
Kinsley Perry led off with the first goal of the game on an assist by Mia Teague then Teague scored the second goal on an assist from Janie Pagel. Pagel picked up the third goal of the game and Teague earned the assist. Teague with an assist again on a goal by Kelsey Crass for the 4-0 lead followed by two straight goals by Hope Howard, the second on an assist from Crass to go up 6-0. Perry picked up the brace with the seventh goal on an assist from Abby Bevil and Peyton Lamb made it 8-0 at halftime.
Both second half goals were scored by Katelynn Ringstaff with Ameilia Boone getting the assist on both. The Lady Marshals took 29 shots in the game.
In the boy’s game, they led 5-0 at halftime on goals by Caleb Nicholls on an assist by William Lynch, Collin Shadowen, Kiefer Court with back to back goals and Collin Riley. The scoreless second half was snapped late in the game on Shadowen’s second goal of the night for the 6-0 win.
Ben Burkeen had two saves while Mayfield keeper Diego Juarez kept the Marshals from running away with it, coming up with 22 saves.
In seven games, the Marshals have out-scored their opponents 37-2.
Another district double-header is coming up on Thursday at home against Calloway County. The Lady Lakers, under first-year head coach Savannah Thielen are 4-1. Thielen is a former Marshall County player and coach. The Lakers come into Thursday’s game 3-1.
Senior Night will take place between games.
