Sharpe Elementary School’s fifth grade class presented a moving Veterans Day Celebration Friday morning, honoring those who have served in all branches of our military. Veterans Day is celebrated each year on Nov. 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I and in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” to honor all veterans in all wars.
The program began with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of The National Anthem by the Sharpe Elementary School Honor Choir. Members of the fifth grade class presented a dramatization of “It is the Veteran” poem followed by a reading of “American Soldier.”
A video presentation entitled “Because of You” was presented, with students holding up photos of important Veterans in their lives and the many reasons they are thankful for the freedoms they enjoy because of our Veterans’ service and sacrifices.
Veterans from each branch of the military stood during the Armed Forces Medley presented by the fifth grade class – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. The students recognized Blue Star and Gold Star military families followed by the singing of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA”.
Each Veteran in attendance received a gift bag and enjoyed lunch with the students.
