October 16, 2019 – Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputies opened an investigation into Burglaries and property damage at two local businesses. Throughout the course of the investigation, Deputies were able to identify a suspect and the whereabouts of his location. In an effort to locate the suspect, Deputies were able to locate and recover a stolen UTV that had recently been reported stolen to our agency.
Keith Humphrey of Benton was charged with:
Receiving Stolen Property $10,000 dollars or more
Tampering with Physical Evidence
Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
Possession of a Firearm by a convicted felon
October 22, 2019 – At approximately 12:30 a.m., Deputies were dispatched to Moors Rd. Gilbertsville in reference to a located stolen vehicle and reports of subjects possibly stealing from parked cars while appearing to be armed with a handgun.
A Benton Police Officer was requested to respond with the Sheriff’s Office based off the nature of the call. A Benton P.D. Officer located the suspect vehicles leaving the area and attempted to make a traffic stop along with the Deputy. The suspect vehicles did not stop and accelerated to a high rate of speed resulting in a pursuit that traveled through multiple jurisdictions. Both vehicles were located by neighboring agencies and one juvenile male was apprehended.
The investigation revealed that two vehicles were stolen locally along with several firearms etc., from parked and unoccupied vehicles. Investigators believe that one or more suspects are still at large after evading Law enforcement through multiple counties. October 22, 2019 – At 08:38 p.m. Deputies were dispatched to a local resort in the Aurora community to a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, Deputies located a male subject with multiple stab wounds. Deputies were able to make contact with the other party involved in the altercation. Marshall County EMS crews responded and transported the male to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. At the time of this release there is no public threat regarding this incident. No other information will be released at this time as it is an ongoing investigation.
October 23, 2019 – Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to KY348 near the hospital to assist a on a traffic stop. The stop was a result of a Detective nearly being struck head on by an oncoming vehicle. The investigation lead to the arrest of the driver. Paul Wecker, of Benton. He was charged with:
-Operating on Suspended or Revoked Operator License
-Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of alcohol/drugs/etc. 08(aggravated circumstances) 1st offense
-Failure of owner to maintain required insurance 1st offense
-Failure to register transfer of motor vehicle
-Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree-Police Officer
-Assault 3rd Degree-Police Officer
-Terroristic Threatening
-Disorderly Conduct, 2nd Degree
-Resisting Arrest
