Austin Stockdale signed Friday at Marshall County High School to continue his soccer career at Campbellsville University. Austin will play for Head Coach Adam Preston who is in his 16th year leading the Tigers. CU is a member of the Mid-South Conference and is an NAIA school.
Austin has been a member of the soccer program since 2014 and a key contributor on the varsity level since his sophomore year. He was part of the district championship team this season and can play any position on the field, always willing to help the team in any way possible. During his three years at the varsity level, the Marshals went 39-19-4 while Austin scored 36 goals and had 26 assists. He is an ultimate team player and leader both on and off the field.
“Austin has worked so hard throughout his high school career for this opportunity and we are very proud of him”, Head Coach Donnie Heath said. “Austin is a leader of the team. He took on a new position this season and made the transition seamlessly. He is highly respected by his peers and teammates. He is one of the hardest working players I’ve had the privilege of coaching. He pushes himself in whatever he does and embodies what we want our soccer players to be.”
Austin was awarded the Hustle Award by his teammates all four years of his high school career and was voted 2018 Offensive MVP. He was selected to the 2017 and 2018 All-District teams and the 2017 and 2018 All-Region Second Teams. Austin was the Marshals team captain for his senior season.
He credits many along the way with his development including past and current MCHS coaches Donnie Heath, Bryan Blevins and Andy Pagel and the Marshall County program with playing a large role in his growth as a person and as a player. His parents Pam and Toney and grandmother, Martha, have been with him throughout his entire soccer career, offering love, support and encouragement.
“Austin will be missed at Marshall County, but we wish him well and know he will achieve great things”, Heath said. “We’re excited for him and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes on and off the field.”
