Clara Jane Hamilton

clarahamiltonMrs. Clara Jane Hamilton, age 79, of Benton, KY passed away at the Calvert City Convalescent Center on Sunday, June 7, 2015. She was a native of Caldwell County and learned to love the outdoors and fishing and swimming at an early age. She was introduced to Kentucky Lake before graduating from Butler High School in Princeton, KY. It would become a defining force in her life.

Her family moved to Jonathan Creek on Kentucky Lake in the late 1960’s and became active in the tourism business with Lakeland Motel, Sportsman’s Lodge, and Lakeside Campground. She enjoyed bird watching and spending time in her garden. She was an outstanding seamstress and knitter and gifted in embroidery. She was a private person who allowed others to shine. She was the quiet force that gave her family their strength. She was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church.

She leaves behind her husband, Carl C. Hamilton of Benton, and daughters, Vivian Collins of Benton and Carla Riley of Gilbertsville. Her memory will live on through her grandchildren, Kacy (Chevy) York of Benton, and Tayler, William, and Addison Riley of Gilbertsville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, David Otis Stephens and Edna Yates Herron along with sisters, Sarah Robertson and Peggy Hart Busby. She was also preceded by her son-in-laws, Kenneth Collins and Ray Riley.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., Earl Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
