
Dodging rain showers and darkness, the Marshall County tennis team hosted three teams Tuesday – Lyon County, CFS and CCA.
Both boy’s and girl’s teams defeated Lyon County 9-0. Hayden Jaco (MCHS) defeated Trey Langhi 8-0 and Kaleb Willie (MCHS) defeated Brandon Bourbon 4-0 by default. Courtney Phillips (MCHS) defeated Audrey Crayne 8-1, Lindy King (MCHS) defeated Caitlin Comerford 5-0 by default and Kayla Story (MCHS) defeated Khia Burks 1-0 by default. All other matches were forfeited.
Against CFS, the boys won 5-1. In singles play Hayden Jaco (MCHS) defeated Jordan Vaughn 8-0, Kaleb Willie(MCHS) defeated Brian Sibly 8-0, Wesley Manning(CFS) defeated Pratik Patel 8-1 and Alex Chapman(MCHS) defeated Jesse Covey 8-0. In doubles play, Jaco/Willie (MCHS) defeated Vaughn/Cary 8-1 and Patel/Kerrick (MCHS) defeated Sibley/Manning 8-0.
Marshall County’s girls won 8-1 against CFS. In singles play, Jessica Wilcox (MCHS) defeated Elizabeth Dunning 8-0, Kayla Story (MCHS) defeated Abby Eutsler 8-1, Karli Vaughn (CFS) defeated Maci Phillips 8-5 and three went to MCHS by forfeit. In doubles play, Wilcox/Ross (MCHS) defeated Vaughn/Dunning 8-1 and two went to MCHS by forfeit.
In matches against CCA, the boys won 8-1. In singles, Atticus Hughes (CCA) defeated Keifer Court 8-5 and the remaining matches went to MCHS by forfeit. In doubles play, all matches were forfeited by CCA. The girls won 5-0 against CCA, all were forfeits with the exception of one doubles match, Wilcox/Ross (MCHS) defeated Macey Pruitt/Madison Stuber 9-7.
The team has two remaining matches on their schedule before the regional tournament – Thursday at Graves County and a rescheduled match at St. Mary on Tuesday, May 1.
