Names of deceased victims from shooting released, five still in critical condition

A 6:00 pm press briefing was held at the Marshall County Board of Education. Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rick Sanders said the 15-year-old male shooter opened fire at 7:57 am in the Commons area of Marshall County High School striking 14 people. Of the 14 people struck by gun fire, two have deceased.

Six were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where 15-year-old Preston Cope passed away. Fifteen year old Bailey Holt passed away at the scene of the shooting. The five remaining at Vanderbilt remain in critical condition.

Sanders said the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is responsible for the investigation, assisted by the FBI Evidence Technicians and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Two locations have been set up, the first for anyone connected with the shooting that may be in need of items left behind at the scene. That location is the Family Resource Center at the Kentucky Agriculture Extension Office located at 1933 Mayfield Hwy., Benton. A counseling center is being set up at the old Pepsi bottling plant located at 1531 US Hwy. 641 in Benton, for those that need of grief counseling.
