

Former Lady Marshal soccer player, Kayla Travis, now a freshman midfielder/forward for the Murray State women’s soccer team, will be a part of the team when they play in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Tennessee after MSU won their second OVC tournament title.
Travis was a stand-out player at Marshall County, finishing her career as the fifth leading scoring and second in assists in program history. She saw playing time in 16 of the Lady Racers regular season games as they head into the NCAA tournament with a record of 15-1-2.

The Murray State women’s soccer team will play Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday, November 11 at 4 p.m. CST.
Now in his fourth year, Jeremy Groves has led the Racers to three straight OVC regular season titles, two OVC tournament titles and now the second NCAA appearance under his guidance.
“We’ve been through this now and have experience in the tournament. When we played Ole Miss last time we looked shell shocked, and the first half of that game showed. In the second half we settled down. Going in, we should act like we’ve been there,” said Groves when asked about the parallels from the 2015 squad and the current team.
This marks the second time the Racers have faced Tennessee in the 18 seasons of soccer at Murray State, as the Volunteers came away with a 3-0 win in Knoxville,Tenn. on September 6, 2015.
Murray State enter the tournament riding a six-game winning streak and is 15-1-2 overall while Tennessee enters the tournament with an overall record of 14-4-1.
The Racers have been to the NCAA Tournament twice before, losing both games in the first round to Virginia Tech 2-0 in 2009 and Ole Miss 1-0 in 2015.
