The Marshall County High School golf team traveled to Mineral Mound State Park golf course (par 71) in Eddyville, Kentucky, to participate in the 12-team “Best of The West” season opening tournament on Friday.

Marshall County started their 2017 season in grand fashion by coming away with a first place finish in the tournament.  The Marshals were led by freshman, Jay Nimmo who shot a score of 68 (3 under par) which also earned him medalist honors for the tournament.  Sophomore, Tyler Powell shot a score of 74 good enough for 3rd place among all individual scores in the tournament.

“I’m extremely happy for the boys on this golf team”, Head Coach Keith Bell said. “It was a great way to start the season.  They played against some good competition from Regions 1 and 2 and came away with a 1st place finish.  I cautioned the team on over celebrating though, our goal is to make it back the state tournament and anything short of that will be disappointing.  We will continue to work hard and play in matches and tournaments in order to prepare for the regional tournament.”

Coach Bell was pleased with the great play of Jay Nimmo he said, “on a course that requires players to keep their ball in the fairway.”  Bell said Tyler Powell also played some really good golf saying “I’m very proud of the team and their effort. Great start to the 2017 golf season.”

Marshall County individual scores were as follows:

Jay Nimmo 68
