The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the discovery of a body Tuesday near Gilbertsville.

Sheriff Kevin Byars said a caller about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday reported finding a body inside a cabin near 6586 U.S. Highway 641 N. in Gilbertsville. The Marshall County Coroner’s Office requested detectives respond to assist on scene.

Deputy Coroner Barry Taylor confirmed a deceased woman had been found in the area but declined to release additional details surrounding the incident. He said the woman’s family had been notified but declined to release her identity.

Byars said the woman, in her early 50s, appeared to have died of natural causes, however further investigation could come pending the results of an autopsy.

State medical examiners conducted an autopsy this morning in Madisonville, according to Coroner Mitchell Lee. Official findings would be available in about a month, Taylor said.
