According to AAA, more than 38 million Americans will be traveling for the Memorial Day Weekend, an increase of 700,000 compared to a year ago, the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record, and the most we’ve seen since 2005.
Nearly 34 million – or 89 percent – plan to drive.
And they’ll be paying more for gas when they do so.
That’s because gas prices are at their highest point for the year, and the national average has increased every day for nearly two weeks, AAA says.
Today’s national average of $2.29 per gallon, while low compared to years past, is still up seven cents per gallon on the week and 15 cents per gallon on the month.
