Lady Marshals go 3-2 in Bob Jones Invitational, open play in Florida Beach Bash

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Before heading to Fort Walton Beach, FL for the Florida Beach Bash, the Lady Marshals softball team made a stop in Huntsville, AL to play five games in the Bob Jones Invitational, coming away with 3 wins and 2 losses.

A home run by Abby Fiessinger, RBI single by Kenslie Cross and RBI single by Addie Young gave the Lady Marshals an early 3-0 lead in their opening 5-0 win over Arab, AL. Fiessinger doubled in the 2nd inning to bring a run in for a 4-0 lead and the final run was scored on an RBI single by Bailey Murhpy. Gabbi Snow recorded the win with 7 innings on the mound, gave up 7 hits and allowed no runs.


In their second game on Friday, the Lady Marshals fell 10-2 to Russellville, AL. A 3-run homer by Jakari Suggs helped lead Russellville to a 4-0 1st inning lead that held until the bottom of the 3rd when the Lady Marshals got on the board on a run scored by Payton Smothers on an error.
Russellville added 3 more runs in the 4th to lead 7-1 followed by a final 4th inning score by the Lady Marshals on an RBI single by Smothers. Russellville scored their final 3 runs in the 5th on their way to the 10-2 win.
Briley English pitched the first 4 innings, giving up 6 hits and 7 runs with Snow finishing out the game allowing 2 hits and 3 runs.


Snow went 7 innings on the mound, allowing just 4 hits, to lead the Lady Marshals to a 2-0 win over Danville, AL in their first game on Saturday. The win came on 10 hits, led by Smothers who went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. The Lady Marshals scored a run in the top of the 4th when Murphy crossed the plate in the top of the 6th on an RBI double by Lexee Miller.


In their fourth game of the Invitational, the Lady Marshals beat host Bob Jones of Madison, AL 10-6 on 9 hits and 4 errors. A big 1st inning began on a 2-run double by Fiessinger. Fiessinger and Murphy scored on an error followed by a bases loaded walk by Miller that brought in Young for a 5-0 lead.
Three more runs in the 2nd made it an 8-1 game. A left field RBI triple by Fiessinger and RBI double by Young led the Lady Marshal hitters in the inning.
MacKenzie Harper and Miller scored in the bottom of the 3rd for a 10-1 lead that Bob Jones cut to 10-4 in the 4th and  10-6 in the 5th. Snow picked up the win going 3.2 innings on the mound while allowing 5 hits and 4 runs.


In their final game in Huntsville, the Lady Marshals fell 8-6 to Cullman in a great back and forth battle the ended in a 6-6 tie and was decided in an extra inning according to International Tie-breaker rules.


Sunday, they opened play in the Florida Beach Bash, falling to Central Hardin, KY 14-1 in 5 innings. Central Hardin had 12 hits in the game while the Lady Marshals managed 2 hits by Fiessinger and Presley Jezik. Fiessinger drove in the Lady Marshals only run on a single in the bottom of the 1st inning.
Central Hardin was led by hitters Emily Bryant who went 2/3 with a home run and 4 RBIs, Aubree Muse 2/3 with 2 RBIs, Peyton Beger 2/3 with an RBI and Amanda Sheekelford 2/4 with an RBI.
Snow took the loss on the mound in 2.0 innings of work allowing 10 hits and 9 runs.


Monday against Kentucky’s #5 ranked Anderson County, the Lady Marshals fell 10-4 in 7 innings of play. Anderson County led 7-0 after 3 innings before the Lady Marshals scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th on a sacrifice by Miller, RBI single by Smothers and 2-run triple by Fiessinger.
Anderson County’s Mia Aldridge hit a 3-run home run in the top of the 6th to seal the win. Cameron Holt, Trista Craigmyle and Kately Harrod combined for 9 of Anderson County’s 17 hits.
The Lady Marshals were led by Fiessinger who went 2/4 with a triple and RBI, Miller 2/3 with an RBI, Smothers 2/4 with an RBI and Snow 3/3.
Snow pitched 7 innings allowing 17 hits and 10 runs.


The Lady Marshals play Northmont, OH today (Tuesday) at 1:00, Choctawhatchee, FL Wednesday at 5:00, then close the Florida Beach Bash out on Friday at against Eastern, KY.
