
Calvert City, KY (April 14, 2025) – On March 25, 2025 an officer took a call from a concerned parent regarding a small yellow car passing a school bus while it was picking up her child. The caller advised that she nor her child were injured, but it was very close. Her child got on the bus, and she got into her vehicle and followed the car. The vehicle had pulled over and the caller was able to speak to the operator. The driver indicated that the sun was in her eyes, and she did not see the bus. With the information from the caller, the officer was able to obtain videos from area businesses and from the school bus. Officers were familiar with a previous owner of the vehicle. Contact was made with the previous owner and through further investigation the current owner was located. The officer spoke to the owner who immediately advised that she knew she messed up and admitted to what was previously reported. The officer filed a criminal complaint and a warrant was issued. On April 09, 2025 Meghan R. Belcher, 31, of 401 Walter Jetton Boulevard, #3204, Paducah turned herself into the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. She was served a warrant for wanton endangerment 1st degree and lodged at the Marshall County Detention Center. The Calvert City Police Department would like to thank the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County School System, area businesses and all others who assisted with this incident.
On April 12, 2025 an officer received a phone call from Waffle House about a man passed out in his vehicle in their parking lot. The caller advised that the vehicle has been there for 30 minutes to an hour. The officer responded and located the vehicle in question. As the officer exited his cruiser he could hear and smell the exhaust from the vehicle and observed the headlights and taillights were on. Upon approach the officer could see the operator of the vehicle was slumped over and appeared to be asleep or passed out. The officer could tell he was breathing. The officer observed an open Michelob Ultra beer bottle in the cup holder next to the operator. The operator woke up and got out of the vehicle to speak with the officer. During the investigation more beer and prescription medication was found. Austin Blake Gipson, 28, of 1122 Jefferson Street, Paducah was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol 1st offense and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle. He was lodged at the Marshall County Detention Center. The Calvert City Police Department would like to thank the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
