Region 1 Champs! Lady Marshals are headed to the Sweet 16

The Lady Marshals are heading back to Rupp Arena after clinching their 25th Region 1 Championship with a 40-27 victory over Calloway County on Saturday. Their last appearance in the Sweet 16 came during the 2020-21 season when they finished as state runner-up, falling to Sacred Heart in the title game.

This marked the fourth meeting of the season between Marshall County and Calloway County. The Lady Marshals entered with a 2-1 edge, having split the regular-season matchups before securing the 4th District title against the Lady Lakers.

Offense was hard to come by in the opening quarter, with Marshall County holding a slim 5-3 lead. The struggle continued in the second, as Calloway County outscored the Lady Marshals 11-1, taking a 14-6 advantage into halftime. Addi Wall’s free throw was Marshall County’s only point in the quarter.

The Lady Marshals turned the tide in the third, rallying to tie the game at 17 before taking charge with a dominant 21-5 run to seize a 27-19 lead.

Marshall County held a 31-25 advantage in the fourth quarter with two minutes remaining and went up by seven at 34-27 with one minute left on the clock. They finished out the championship win on a 6-0 run to take the title 40-27.

Skylar Waller led the Lady Marshals with 12 points, followed by Addi Wall with 11 and Kenzlee Terry with nine.

Wall was selected Outstanding Player of the game. Both Waller and Terry earned spots on the All-Region Team, with Waller also receiving the prestigious Joey Fosko MVP Award.

Marshall County now sets its sights on the Sweet 16, where they will face Henderson County (27-5) at Rupp Arena on Thursday, March 13, at 6:00 PM EST / 5:00 PM CST.
