The top seed in the District 4 tournament was on the line when the Lady Marshals hosted Calloway County on Friday at Reed Conder Gymnasium. The Lady Marshals lost to the Lady Lakers 52-42 in their first meeting, and they achieved the regular season split with Friday’s 55-44 victory.
The 11-point win earned them the number one seed in the post-season tournament in a tiebreaker after the two teams finish with a 5-1 district record. Overall, the Lady Marshals improve to 20-6 while the loss drops the Lady Lakers to 21-4.
Head Coach Aaron Beth in post-game comments said the Lady Marshals have been getting better all season and he was happy with their defensive effort especially in the first half.
That defensive effort held Calloway County leading scorers Sayler Lowe and Jaiden Koch to a combined 10 points, well below their averages. Coming in, Lowe was ranked 20th in the state with a 20.5 per game average and Koch ranked 39th with an average of 18.5.
Senior Skylar Waller led the way with 20 points in the Senior Night win. Waller had two of the Lady Marshals eight 3-pointers and was 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Kenzlee Terry finished with 16 points, all from 3-point range.
Jaycee Crouch scored 15 to lead Calloway County followed by 12 from Alle Allred, each hitting four 3-pointers of the team’s 12 in the game. All of the Lady Lakers points came from 3-point range or the free throw line.
Waller, Laken Schroader and J.C. Wells were recognized in Senior Night festivities between games of the district double header.
The Lady Marshals will take a break from games this week before their final contest of the regular season next Saturday against Todd County Central at home with a 3:30 tipoff.
