Man arrested for threatening to have Commonwealth Attorney killed

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office recently received information from a source that 38-year-old Brandon I. Cavette was attempting to hire individuals from the Houston Texas area to have the Graves County Commonwealth’s Attorney Richie Kemp killed.

Cavette was arrested 01/02/23 by Graves Sheriff’s deputies on a variety of felony drug trafficking charges after they seized approximately 15 pounds of processed Marijuana, 4,226 Ecstasy pills, and 3,255 Etizolam pills, along with $8,000 dollars in cash. This was part of an investigation whereas a search warrant was executed at his home on Key Bottom Road just north of Mayfield.

Cavette has since been indicted by a Graves County Grand Jury and is awaiting trial. The investigation revealed that Cavett was upset at Mr. Kemp for prosecuting him on the above case and upset at a 14 year offer from the prosecutor.  Cavette is also Persistent Felony Offender eligible.

The threats made by Cavett have been secured by way of audio recordings.

Cavette who is known to reside in both Graves and McCracken counties was located by way of surveillance of a Paducah residence early Friday afternoon. He was arrested and brought back to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office where he requested to speak with an attorney.

Cavette was later transported to an out of county detention facility.

Charge: Retaliating Against a Participant in a Legal Process (FELONY)

Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
