This holiday season, the Purchase District Health Department proudly partnered with local organizations to distribute Mental Health and Substance Use Prevention Kits featuring Frost and Fun Holiday Dessert Kits! The holiday kits, which include dessert mix, icing, and candy for decorating, were created to encourage households to enjoy quality time together during the holidays. These kits were funded by McCracken County Opioid Abatement funds.

Cameron Burkeen, Program Manager for the Purchase District Health Department said, “Earlier this year, we distributed gardening kits. This time we wanted to involve the holidays with a project. The holidays can be a difficult time for some people, so we wanted to provide an activity that could be memorable and hopefully start a tradition for some.”

Spending time as a family strengthens relationships, improves mental health, and fosters protective factors that support children and teens. Studies show that these connections can boost academic success, social skills, emotional well-being, and prevent future substance misuse. Each Frost and Fun kit also include The Dinner Table Project from Four Rivers Behavioral Health, offering activities and conversation starters to help families strengthen bonds and create meaningful traditions.

PDHD packed and distributed 320 Mental Health and Substance Use Prevention “Frost and Fun” Holiday Dessert Kits across McCracken County. A huge thank you to Paducah HeadStart preschool, Paducah Cooperative Ministry, and McCracken County Drug Court for helping us make this initiative a success! Together, we’re building stronger, healthier families this holiday season.
