
The fourth season of the Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League concluded with Sunday’s State Championship at the Rudy Mine Trails in Owensboro. The Marshall County High School team finished third on the season and placed three high school riders on the final race and state championship podiums.
Brady Atkins finished third on Sunday in the Varsity race and third in the overall series. Emma Roberts in JV and Emmalee Downs in 10th Grade divisions each placed second in the final race and second in the overall series.
As a team, Marshall County had 13 top 10 finishes in the fifth and final race and eight high school riders placing in the top 10 in the overall series State Championship rankings.
The McCracken County High School team finished fourth overall and Livingston County Composite finished 10th among the 18 teams in the league. Marshall County and McCracken County are the only teams in the state where all riders attend the respective schools while the majority of the teams in the league are composite teams.
The Livingston County Composite team had five top 10 finishes in Sunday’s race and three top State Championship results. Sam Eichelberger and Danika Akins both finished fourth overall in the 9th Grade divisions and Graham Rhea placed sixth overall in the 10th Grade division.
McCracken County had eight riders finish in the top 10 for the season including two State Champion. Brooks Wolfe won the State Championship title in the JV Boys division and Alex Smith the boys UC2 category.
Along with the race on Sunday, the State Championship weekend consisted of a family night that recognized seniors, a bike prom and glow in the dark foam party on Saturday following pre-rides.
