KYTC District 1 Roadshow: Traffic Impact Report for Week of July 28-Aug 3

PADUCAH, KY (July 26, 2024) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates ongoing work zone construction and long-term maintenance activities at the following locations will impact traffic in District 1 counties the week of July 28-Aug 3.

I-24 Tennessee River Bridge Rehab and Painting at 29mm (UPDATED)
Eastbound traffic is restricted to one lane at this time.  Westbound has a traffic shift with two lanes open. There is an 8 ft.-6 in. max load width and 13 ft- 6 in. max height restriction, a 55 MPH speed limit, enhanced enforcement, double fines, and a concrete barrier wall.  We continue to ask local commuters to take an alternate route via U.S. 62 between Exit 27 and Exit 40.  Watch for a traffic configuration change in mid-August. Target for project completion is Dec 1, 2024.

Purchase Parkway Extended Work Zone 0 to 21mm
This work zone runs from the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line at Fulton and the U.S. 45/KY 80-Bypass Mayfield Exit 21 interchange in Mayfield.  It includes a 13 ft. maximum load width restriction at mile point 1.3 near Fulton.  On completion late this year, Interstate 69 will be extended along the final 21 miles of the existing parkway. The target completion date for all of the upgrades is Nov 2, 2024.

I-24 Traffic Stripe Painting (NEW)
Through this week there will be multiple traffic paint crews will be working along the main line of I-24 in Trigg, Caldwell, Lyon, Marshall, and McCracken counties. Paint crews will be on the road during daylight hours whenever weather allows.  While the paint crews use fast-drying paint, motorists are reminded to avoid driving through fresh paint.  Appropriate caution is required anytime you encounter a paint truck and support vehicles.

U.S. 60 Extended Closure ‘Big Dig Project’ in Crittenden Co. July 31-Aug 1
PHASE ONE:  U.S. 60 will be closed to all through traffic for about two days between the 5 and 6 mile on Wed & Thursday to allow several cross drains to be replaced. This is between intersections with KY 297 (Tolu-Sheridan Road) and KY 1668 (Crittenden Springs Road).  U.S. 60 is expected to close promptly at 6:00 a.m., CDT, on Wed, July 31. It is expected to reopen at this site on the afternoon of Aug. 1.  There will be no marked detour.  Trucks traveling between Marion and Paducah should self-detour through Fredonia and Eddyville via U.S. 641, U.S. 62 and I-24. Portable message boards will be placed at various locations along U.S. 60 to provide advance notice of the closure site. Passenger vehicles may self-detour via KY 1668, KY 135, KY 723, and KY 297. The contractor will maintain local access for homeowners in the Moore Hill area, and work with local agencies to provide emergency vehicle access.  Once work is completed at this site, U.S. 60 will close at the 8mm for about two days. U.S. 60 Extended Closure at 8mm in Crittenden Co. Aug 2 & 3 (UPDATED)
PHASE TWO:  U.S. 60 will close for about two days near the 8mm west of Marion between KY 981 (Old Salem Road) and KY 1668 (Crittenden Springs Road) to allow a culvert to be replaced immediately east of Airport Road. This project will start once the project listed above is completed.  There will be no marked detour. Commercial trucks should seek an alternate route appropriate to the size and weight of the vehicle.  Passenger vehicles may self-detour via KY 1668 (Crittenden Springs Road), KY 135 and KY 91  There is a one-lane bridge on KY 135 on this detour.  Motorists traveling between Marion and Paducah should consider a self-detour via U.S. 641, U.S. 62, and Interstate 24 through Eddyville.

U.S. 60 Work Zone at 8.4mm in Marion/Crittenden County
Be prepared for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during daylight hours near the Crittenden County School Complex and hospital for construction of a turn lane. Target completion date is Aug 10.

U.S. 45-Business (KY Ave) Downtown Paducah Signal Change (NEW)
Traffic signals along U.S. 45-Business (Kentucky Avenue) at 5th Street and U.S. 45-Business (Kentucky Avenue) at 6th Street will be placed in flash mode for 90 days starting Tuesday, July 30.  This will allow a traffic flow study to determine how the intersections will function without a signal. The signals will flash yellow for caution along U.S. 45-Business and flash red to require stops for traffic on 5th Street and 6th Street. East-west traffic on U.S. 45-Business (Kentucky Avenue) will flow freely, while north-south traffic on the side streets will have to stop at the intersection.  Motorists should be alert for changes in traffic flow the signal alterations will bring to these intersections.  Approximately 4,100 vehicles travel this section of Kentucky Avenue in an average day.

KY 1310/Berger Rd Daytime Closures in Paducah start July 29 (NEW)
Daytime closures along the west end of KY 1310 (Berger Road) in Paducah run from U.S. 45 (Lone Oak Road) extending eastward to the Oak Street intersection, a distance of just under 1/2 mile.  Closures are 7 a.m., to 4 p.m., to allow construction of curb, gutters and sidewalks. The contractor will maintain local access for residents and businesses, as well as access for emergency vehicles.  The target completion date is September 15, 2024.

KY 545 Extended Closure in Carlisle County starts July 29 (NEW)
Extended closure of KY 545 in Carlisle County starts Monday at mile point 0.425 to allow erosion mitigation work at the Lick Creek Culvert immediately south of Hebron Road.  KY 545 is expected to remain closed for about two weeks while the contractor repairs erosion around the large concrete box culvert.  Target completion date is August 13, 2024.

KY 126 (Cobb Road) Open Near Trigg-Caldwell County Line (UPDATE)
A section of KY 126 (Cobb Road) has reopened at the 5.2 mile point where a sinkhole about the size of a bushel basket developed in the roadway about 50 ft south of the Trigg-Caldwell County Line. Repairs are complete.  Roadway is open.

KY 2123 Extended Closure in Crittenden County starts Aug. 7
KY 2123 (Glendale Church Road) will be closed at mile point 2.1 to replace the Little Hurricane Creek Culvert. This closure is about halfway between Glendale Church and the KY 1668 (Crittenden Springs Road) intersection.  KY 2123 is expected to close at 7 a.m., on Wed, Aug 7. The roadway is expected to reopen to traffic around 4 p.m., on Friday, August 9.  There will be no marked detour.  Watch here for updates.

KY 783/Crossland Rd Extended Closure in Calloway County
An extended closure of KY 783/Crossland Road in Calloway County at the 4.19mm is to allow the West Fork Clarks River Bridge to be replaced. This closure is about 1/2 mile south of the Wiswell community.  The contractor has established a marked detour for this site via KY 1828/Midway Rd and U.S. 641.  The target completion date is Oct 1, 2024.

KY 2603/Vanzora Rd at Soldier Creek Bridge in Marshall County
A new bridge is being constructed over Soldier Creek along KY 2603/Vanzora Road at 1.17mm in Marshall County. The roadway is closed. The target completion date is Oct 1, 2024.

KY 1485/Bellville Rd Closed in Southern Graves County
KY 1485/Bellville Road in Graves County is closed at the Terrapin Creek Bridge near the 2mm – about two miles north of the KY-TN State Line.  An inspection team found deterioration of the bridge substructure. The bridge is closed to all traffic until further notice.  There is no marked detour.  KY 1485/Bellville Road connects to Boydsville Road at the state line. Engineers are determining if the bridge can be repaired or should be replaced.

KY 295 Closed at Lyon-Crittenden County Line
KY 295 is closed at Lyon County mile point 9.419 and Crittenden County mile point 0.0 at the Livingston Creek Bridge due to structural issues on the bridge. This is at the Crittenden-Lyon County Line. Signs and barricades are posted.  Engineers anticipate ongoing environmental and design work will progress to allow plans for a new bridge to be ready for bidding in late summer or early fall with construction to follow.  Watch for updates.

U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street in Murray (UPDATE)
U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street in Murray is closed north of KY 94/East Main Street for curb, gutter, and concrete pavement work.  The contractor is moving northward along U.S. 641-Business about a block at a time until work is completed between Main Street and Chestnut.  Access will be maintained for businesses.  Motorists may self-detour via side streets. Due to weather delays, and utility work required as part of the project, the target completion is extended to Sept 1, 2024.

KY 408 Extended Closure East of Benton in Marshall County
KY 408/Egners Ferry Road is closed immediately east of Benton.  The project between KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road and KY 1897/Olive-Hamlet Road includes construction of 4 bridges over Johns River and Clarks River.  A marked detour via U.S. 68 and KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road adds 2.2 miles or about 4 minutes of travel time. The target completion date is Aug 15, 2025.

KY 780 in Hickman County Closed at Bayou de Chien Bridge
KY 780 is closed at mile point 3.818 due to substructure deterioration on the Bayou de Chien Bridge between U.S. 51 and Martin Road.  This is on the lower end of KY 780 West of U.S. 51.  The bridge will remain closed until engineers can develop a repair plan.  Motorists may self-detour via the north end of KY 780 to U.S. 51 (South Washington St) at the south edge of Clinton.

Please be alert and use extra caution anytime you encounter a work zone.  Slow down and put down your cell phone.  Watch for flaggers and pay attention to the directions they provide to guide you safely on your way.  All work is scheduled on a weather-permitting basis.
