LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES, KY/TN - The U.S. Forest Service will conduct a series of small burns to maintain facilities, such as campgrounds, at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area beginning in March 2016, weather permitting. "Our goal is to reduce hazardous fuels such as debris from flooding, leaves from clogged culverts, and brush piles from hazard trees removed across the recreation area over the past year," says Todd Lerke, Fire Management Specialist at Land Between The Lakes. "Another goal is to improve aesthetics in campgrounds and other areas for everyone who visits this spring." These burns may be visible from all directions coming into Land Between The Lakes. Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area manages more than 170,000 acres in western Kentucky and Tennessee as part of the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture's public lands program. Land Between The Lakes offers outdoor recreation, lake access, land management, and environmental education to over 1.4 million visitors annually. The Friends of Land Between The Lakes works in partnership with the Forest Service providing program services, funds development, and volunteer support.
