On January 16, 2024 at approximately 1:15 PM, McCracken County
Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Albany Street to the
complaint of shots being fired. Deputies located Nash G. McMillen, 21
of Paducah, at the residence. McMillen stated that he had been target
practicing in the back yard with a newly purchased handgun. Deputies
determined that McMillen had been firing into a book at a downward
angle in the back yard.
Deputies were familiar with McMillen from a previous encounter in
August 2022. McMillen had been in the area of a local school and was
located by deputies and school personnel. McMillen was trespassed
from McCracken County Schools and had no other contact with law
enforcement until January 16, 2024.
On January 17, 2024, deputies continued to investigate and determined
that McMillen had unlawfully purchased the handgun at a local
business. McMillen had a prior arrest for Assault 4th Degree Domestic
Violence with makes it a crime to purchase firearms. McMillen was
arrested by deputies and charged with Fraudulent Firearm Transaction,
a Class D felony. The handgun and other evidence was seized for
forensic examination.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the McCracken County School
police in this investigation.
