Huel Thomas Edwards, age 100, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Barkley Plantation in Cadiz.
Born August 30, 1923, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Early and Georgia Boyd Thomas.
In her early years, Huel was employed at Trigg County Farmers Bank and after her marriage to John “Toppy”, she was a bookkeeper for Standard Oil Company. After the closing of the Cadiz office, she worked as a bookkeeper at Fourshee Building Supply.
She was a member of Cadiz Baptist church where she enjoyed participating in her Bible study group. Huel was also a charter member of the Cadiz Woman’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John “Toppy” Edwards; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Edwards, Johnny Edwards and wife, Sue and seven sisters, Mary “Mae” Mize, Louise Thomas, Pearl Dunn, Edna Hughes, Jeanie Wetton, Rosie Cunningham and Martha Bush.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Ellen (Dr. George) Cheng of Spotsylvania, Virginia; great grandson, Ethan Thomas Cheng; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, January 13, 2024. A joint memorial service for Huel, her son, Johnny and wife, Sue will be at Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc. at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 13, 2024 with Rev. Justin Carter and Dr. Luther B. Hughes, Jr. officiating.
Burial will be at a later date at East End Cemetery in Cadiz.
