Dr. James Edward Holmes, D.O., 78, of Benton, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
James was born in Detroit, Michigan on October, 26, 1945 to the late Woodrow Wilson Holmes and Mary Kathleen Crass Holmes. He graduated from Howe Military Academy going on to attend and graduate from Marion University. He was a graduate of Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his degree to become a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to practice medicine for over forty years in Benton, Kentucky and Las Vegas, Nevada. James returned to Benton after retiring in 2017. James loved movies, especially old westerns. He also enjoyed collecting antiques of all different kinds and spending time with his family.
He is survived by, his two daughters, Lacey Hayden (Shawn) of Paducah and Katy Holmes of Malibu, California; his five sons, Adam Holmes (Daniera) of Benton, Dustin Holmes of McCroy, Arkansas, Yancey Holmes (Jean) of Melbourne, Kentucky, James Holmes (Courtney) of Paducah, and Justin Holmes of Dexter; his eight grandchildren, Alexandra Holmes, Madison Holmes, Bonnie Higginbotham, Justin Higginbotham, Kayla Holmes, Peyton Holmes, Cameron Holmes and James Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Ashley Dawn Holmes; one sister, Joann Gordon; and his parents, Woodrow Wilson Holmes and Mary Kathleen Crass Holmes.
Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr is handling the arrangements.
The family will have private graveside services at a later date.
