Marshals beat Madisonville-North Hopkins 77-43 in Saturday’s Hoopfest game

The Marshall County boys team opened the final session of the 2023 Hoopfest on Saturday with a 77-43 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins. The win gave them a Hoopfest sweep and they remain undefeated at 3-0.

Alex Staples led the Marshals with 25 points which earned the junior game MVP honors. Staples went 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 at the line, part of a perfect free throw night for the Marshals who as a team were 13-of-13.

The Marshals led by three at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 34-21 at halftime. They poured it on in the second half, outscoring the Maroons 43-22 to earn the 77-43 win.

Along with Staples, the perfect night at the free throw line was achieved by three other players. Matthew Langhi 5-of-5, Tommy Robertson 4-of-4 and Orrin Phelps 2-of-2. The Marshals also shot well from behind the arc hitting eight of 10 attempts.

Lamontae Ratcliff led the Maroons with 13 points. They struggled from the floor hitting 34 percent and went 4-of-25 from 3-point range.

Up next, the Marshals host Carlisle County on Tuesday at 7:30 following freshman and JV games that get underway at 5:00.
