Donald ‘Brooks’ McGregor

McGregor-663x1024Mr. Donald Brooks McGregor, age 90 of Benton, KY passed away Saturday, January 30,
2016, at Lake Way Nursing & Rehabilitation in Benton, KY.

Born Tuesday, December 8, 1925 in Marshall Co, KY, he was the son of the late Henry
Bart McGregor and the late Ida Mae (Hendrickson) McGregor. He was retired from
Pennwalt Corportation in Calvert City where he was a Maintanence Carpenter. Mr.
McGregor was a life long Carpenter, he was also a Private Pilot and a Flight
Instructor. He was a 60 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons and was the past
Master of the T.L Jefferson Masonic Lodge 622 in Benton, KY. He was also a member of
the Rizpah Temple of the Shrine of Madisonville, KY. He was a member, Deacon and
Trustee of the New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Benton, KY. 

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 until 1946 where he earned the
rank of Corporal. He was a Veteran of World War II. He was one of the first Marines
to hit the beach on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. 
He was a part of the 4th Marine Division serving in the Pioneer Battalion. 

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Daphina Jean (Thompson) McGregor, two sons,
Terry Brooks McGregor, wife Vicki of Benton, KY and Larry Don McGregor, wife Dee of
Benton, KY. Grandchildren, Molly Eubanks, husband Mark of Benton, KY, Josh McGregor,
wife Vanessa of Benton, KY, Jonathan McGregor, wife Liz of Paducah, KY, Justin
McGregor, wife Shelley of Paducah, KY. Great-Grandchildren, Hayden and Karsen
Eubanks of Benton, KY, Mia and Miles McGregor of Benton, KY, Charley, Brody and
Brooks McGregor of Paducah, KY

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alvin T. McGregor, Hayden
McGregor, Eldridge McGregor and William McGregor, sisters, Isabelle Burd, Irene
Kesterson and Myrtle Draffen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel
of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. Rev. Joe Daryl Thorn and Rev. Jason Sharp
officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Marshall Co. Memory
Gardens, Benton, KY.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 3,
2016, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, KY.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the New Harmony Missionary
Baptist Church Building Fund.
