Work zone active 8 a.m., to 3 p.m., each day

PADUCAH, Ky. (Sept. 14, 2021)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans a daytime lane and load width restriction on the KY 453 Canal Bridge at the northern entrance to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area on Wednesday and Thursday, September 20 & 21, 2023.

This work zone lane and 8 ft. load width restriction is to facilitate a detailed inspection of the bridge structure near the Lyon-Livingston County line at the northern entrance to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

The 8 ft. maximum load width is to accommodate the use of a UBIV- Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle on the bridge structure.

Motorists should be prepared to encounter the work zone restrictions between approximately 8 a.m., CDT, and 3 p.m., each day.

This work zone will include one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers.  Some delays are possible during the movement and placement of equipment to facilitate the work.

Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and inspection personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

The KY 453 Canal Bridge immediately south of Grand Rivers serves as the northern entrance to the Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.  It connects KY 453/Dover Road to the Woodland Trace.

The 800 ft. steel girder bridge has a 360 ft. main span.  Also known as the Between The Rivers Memorial Bridge, it opened to traffic in 1966.  The bridge crosses the navigation canal that connects Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley.

Approximately 1,300 vehicles cross the Canal Bridge in an average day.

All Kentucky bridges get a detailed inspection every two years with all long-span lake and river bridges getting an annual walk-through inspection.  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is responsible for inspecting bridges on all public roads within the Commonwealth.
