Doubles team Wells and Miller advance to state tennis tournament

Marshall County’s doubles team of J.C. Wells and Delaney Miller have secured a spot in the KHSAA Tennis State Championships May 30-June 1 at the UK Boone/Downing Tennis Center.

After a first round bye, Wells and Miller beat Sims and Campbell from St. Mary (6-2, 6-3) then beat Murray’s Myers and Karvaounis (6-1, 6-2) on Tuesday. In Wednesday’s quarterfinals, they lost to McCracken County’s Smith and Patel.

Two men’s doubles teams advanced to the second round after opening round wins. Elston Evans and Eli Rudd beat Jenkins and Lara of Ballard Memorial then lost to Crabtree and McIntosh from McCracken County (1-6, 0-6). Hunter Odom and Maverick Simmons won their first round game over Mayfield’s Shultz and Neely. They lost in the next round to McCracken County’s Patel and Puertollano (0-6, 1-6).

The doubles team of Emma Kate Whirley and Madyn McLeod lost their first doubles match of the tournament to Paducah Tilghman’s Gruber and Duwe.

In singles play, Taylor Thomas lost to Abby Brown of Paducah Tilghman. Faith Eutsler lost to Mayfield’s Molly Null.

After a first round bye, Jameson Wells lost to CCA’s Addicus Hughes (0-6, 1-6). Alex Dinas lost his first round singles match to CCA’s Evan Joyce.
