Alcenia Patricia Byrd, age 78, of Paducah, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 at her residence.
Alcenia was born in Cairo, Illinois on July 4, 1944 to the late Ezell Moody, Sr. and Almeda Verser Moody. She was a retired Correctional Officer for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Alcenia enjoyed traveling, reading, planting flowers and listening to music. She also found great joy in talking with her friends and spending time with her family. She was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church.
Alcenia is survived by two daughters, Cozetta “Cozy” Hurston (Scott) of Clarksville, Tennessee, LaVonda Whitaker (Mike) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three sons, Ronald Johnson, Sr. (Edith) of Columbus, Ohio, Darryl Johnson of Cairo, Illinois, Hobert Lambert (Theodosia) of Paducah, also her granddaughter Darreona, of the home, whom she raised; four sisters, Tollie Johnson of Hazel Crest, Illinois, Teressia Jones (Jimmy) of Paducah, Herlett Bell of Park Forest, Illinois, Sandra Seavers (Norman) of Weston, Florida; one brother, Ezell Moody, Jr. (Gloria) of Park Forest, Illinois; 16 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Sherman Byrd; one brother, George Sampson; one grandson and one great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Rick Schellhardt officiating.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
