An early six-point lead over Graves County vanished for the Lady Marshals on Friday at Reed Conder Gymnasium as the Lady Eagles went on to pick up their second win this season over the Lady Marshals by a final score of 42-25.
“We’ve got to find ways to score”, Head Coach Jimmie Holder said. “That’s our achilles heel right now. That’s something that we’ve got to figure out.”
The Lady Marshals jumped out to an 8-2 lead, all eight points scored by Laken Schroader, but Graves County cut it to one at 8-7 on a 3-pointer by freshman Ella Kemp to end the first quarter. Kemp opened the second quarter with another three to give the Lady Eagles their first lead at 10-8 and it was the start of a 14-0 run that ended on a three from Mia Teague.
Graves County led 29-12 at halftime behind 11 second quarter points from Hannah Glisson and 41-20 at the end of the third on their way to the 18-point win. The Lady Eagles improve to 14-3 while the Lady Marshals drop to 8-10.
“I really though tonight we came out way too passive”, Holder said. “Laken is the one consistent player that we have right now that is willing to go and try to make a play. She will continue to and has grown so much since early on in the year.”
Schroader finished with 16 points and was 4-of-5 at the free throw line.
“Our defense has been there…has been a constant night in and night out”, Holder said, adding that it just comes down to scoring.
Holder said the focus now is on an important district game up next against Calloway County (1-12) on January 20.
