FRANKFORT, KY – The Kentucky League of Cities recognized Representative Chris Freeland (R-Benton) with a 2022 “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award. The KLC Board of Directors awards legislators who perform outstanding work in the legislature advocating for issues that impact cities across the state.

“The legislature has had a plate full of priorities, but we kept critical infrastructure updates like funding to replace aging and antiquated drinking water lines at the forefront,” said Representative Freeland. “I’m proud of the significant money allocated to our local governments because, at the end of the day, they know what’s best and should make the best decisions for their communities.”

Representative Freeland advocated in the 2022 Regular Session of the General Assembly for legislation that helps city officials govern at the local level. Additionally, he carried Senate Bill 112 in the House of Representatives, ensuring the bill’s final passage. The KLC initiative removed unnecessary filing requirements for cities with interlocal agreements.

“We appreciate Representative Freeland’s willingness to take up this important issue and his support on other measures important to cities,” said KLC Executive Director|CEO James D. Chaney. “Local elected officials need strong advocates in the legislature, and Representative Freeland has shown himself to be someone willing to discuss how the legislature can help cities grow and prosper.”

KLC Director of Public Affairs Bryanna L. Carroll thanked Representative Freeland for his willingness to advocate for cities. “We appreciate Representative Freeland’s support on Senate Bill 112 and other measures that the legislature passed in the 2022 session,” she replied. “We look forward to a continued relationship with Representative Freeland in the 2023 session.”

Founded in 1927, the Kentucky League of Cities is a membership association of more than 370 cities across the commonwealth.
