Losing 12 seniors off of last season’s 18-3-2 District Two Champion and Region One runner-up team, the Marshals reload for the 2022 season with six seniors and eight juniors of which just a few saw ample time on the field behind that talented senior class. Leading the way in experience is senior Logan Davis, a Region One First Team and All-District Team selection last season.
It was Davis who scored the only goal for the Marshals off a corner kick from senior Jericho Evans in Tuesday’s 1-0 season opening win over Hopkinsville at Colburn Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the goal came less than three minutes into the second half.
The Marshals had a few good looks that went just wide or saved by Hopkinsville keeper Kenneth McMickens in the first half, several off the foot of senior Preston Lamb.
Held to just two shots on goal in the first half, Hopkinsville wouldn’t have another shot at goal until close to 10 minutes remaining in the game against junior Steven Claborn in the goal again this season for the orange and blue. That was followed by a couple of quick opportunities for the Marshals that were scooped up by McMickens.
The Marshals out-shot Hopkinsville 18-3.
Two-time Region One Coach of the Year, Bryan Blevins, begins his third season as the Marshals head coach.
They will play their first district game on Thursday at home against Mayfield. Hopkinsville opened the season on Monday, losing 5-1 to Madisonville and fall to 0-2.
