Marshals respond to extra innings loss with dominant 11-2 win over Lakers

Kannon Dunn, leading off first in the Marshals game on Tuesday against Calloway County. Dunn earned Thursday’s win from the mound, striking out eight while giving up just five hits and two runs. At the plate Dunn went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

The Marshals bounced back in a big way Thursday at Calloway County, following a tough 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Lakers on Tuesday, with a commanding 11-2 win on 17 hits.

Matthew Henderson and Ayden Clevidence each had three hits on the day. Clevidence doubled and drove in three runs, while Henderson collected two RBIs. Kannon Dunn was dominant on the mound, going the distance with eight strikeouts, allowing just five hits and two runs.

Marshall County struck early, putting up three runs in the first inning. Hutson Doughty led off with a single and came around to score on a Laker error on a bunt by Kannon Dunn that also allowed Dunn to reach safely. Kash Chiles followed with an RBI double and later scored on another Laker error, giving the Marshals a 3-0 lead.

Calloway responded in the bottom of the first with a two-run double by Cuyler McDaniel, cutting the lead to 3-2.

Thomas Bagby at Tuesday’s home game against the Lakers, led off the four-run seventh inning on Thursday with a triple.

In the second, the Marshals capitalized on several Laker errors to load the bases. Doughty was hit by a pitch to force in a run and a walk by Dunn and single by Henderson pushed the lead to 5-2.

The Marshals added two more in the fifth, thanks to Clevidence’s two-run single that brought in Clayton Wyatt and Maddox Cope, both of whom had singled to reach base.

They sealed the win with a four-run seventh inning. Thomas Bagby led off with a triple and scored on a single by Cope. Clevidence followed with an RBI double, then back-to-back doubles by Talen Rose and Doughty brought in two more runs. Henderson capped the scoring with an RBI single to bring in Doughty.

Dunn finished his complete game in style, striking out the final three Laker batters to close out the victory.
