The Marshall County 4-H Communications Contest was held April 15th at the Marshall County Extension Office. Four youth gave presentations on a wide variety of subjects.
Participants are advised to choose a topic that interests them so they can convey their excitement about the subject to the audience. We had 4-Hers from Marshall County High School, North Marshall Middle, Homeschool, and a post-graduate.
In the 4-H Communications Contest, youth compete by age in speeches and by topic in demonstrations. At the county contest, Kristen Mallory and Issy Sumner competed in the 17–18-Year-Old Speech category. Kristen and Issy both received blue ribbons with Kristen being named Champion and Issy placed 2nd.
Those who gave a demonstration included Georgia Jones (Junior—Agriculture), Nevaeh Watkins (Senior—FCS), Issy Sumner (Senior—Visual Arts), and Kristen Mallory (Senior—Clothing & Textiles). All four 4-Hers received blue ribbons and Champion in their respective categories.
The contest also included Mock Job Interviews for the age groups 14-15 and 16-18. Nevaeh Watkins competed in this category. She received blue and Champion.
Based on the Danish ribbon system, all participants received a blue ribbon for the quality of their presentations. All County Champions qualified to represent Marshall County in the West 1&2 Area 4-H Communications Contest scheduled for April 29th in Carlisle County.
The event could not be held without the help and service of community and 4-H volunteers. Judges for this year’s contest were Robynn Garrett and Connie Conley.
