Lady Marshals off to historic start at 12-1

Elin Denfip, courtesy runner for Allicen Harris – stealing second in the bottom of the second – goes on to score the Lady Marshals seventh run in their 15-0 district win over Calloway County.

A special season is unfolding for the Lady Marshals softball team. Off to a 12-1 start under third-year head coach Shane Darnall – their best in almost 25 years according to KHSAA stats that only date back to the 2002 season with a full record of games, and it’s most likely the program’s best ever start.

After avenging their only loss to Christian County with a rematch win just two days later, the Lady Marshals have rattled off six straight victories. Their recent wins include a pair of Friday matchups against Illinois teams, defeating Johnston City 6-3 and Murphysboro 12-2.

The momentum carried into this week when they racked up 23 hits and cruised past Union County 19-9 on Monday, then shutout Calloway County 15-0 in just four innings on Tuesday, collecting 13 hits.

In their second district game of the 2025 season on Tuesday against the Lady Lakers, the Lady Marshals wasted no time getting on the board, putting up three runs in the first inning. The scoring began with two outs—one run crossing on an error, followed by a two-run single from Marin Oakley.

Merriel Jackson leading off of first base in the second inning, would go on to score the 10th run of the game and seventh of the inning in Tuesday’s 15-0 win over Calloway County.

They blew the game open in the second, plating seven runs courtesy of an error, an RBI single from Allicen Harris, a steal of home by Adley Poole, a passed ball, a bases-loaded walk, and RBI singles from Emma Reynolds and Macy McLeod.

Harris hit a leadoff homer in the third, and the Lady Marshals sealed the win with five more in the fourth. Poole’s RBI double brought in the 12th run, Audrey Knisley drove in two more, and Trinlee Anderson capped off the scoring with an RBI double.

In the circle, Harris earned her ninth win of the season, striking out nine while allowing just one hit.

Thursday’s scheduled district game against Murray has been canceled due to impending weather, but the Lady Marshals will now set their sights on a slate of spring break games in Fort Walton Beach.

Their road trip begins Sunday with a noon matchup against Hart County, followed by a 2:00 p.m. game against Campbellsville. They’ll continue play Monday against West Jessamine (1:00 p.m.), take on Lafayette on Wednesday (3:00 p.m.), and close out the week Friday morning against Henry County (9:00 a.m.).
