Kash Chiles and Maddox Cope each recorded two hits and an RBI in the Marshals’ season-opening 10-3 victory over Hickman County. Matthew Henderson and Ayden Clevidence contributed two RBIs apiece as the Marshals racked up nine hits in the win.
Thomas Bagby earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings while striking out four, allowing three hits, and giving up one run. Kannon Dunn secured the save over three-inning of work, striking out eight while surrendering two hits and one run.
The Marshals struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Cope’s RBI single. Hickman County responded in the bottom half, tying the game on an error.
In the third, a two-run single by Clevidence put the Marshals back in control at 3-1, and they never looked back. A five-run fourth inning extended their lead to 8-1, fueled by RBI singles from Henderson, Bagby, and Chiles, a bases-loaded walk by Hayden Gray, and a groundout by Doughty.
Hickman County added a run in the fourth, but the Marshals answered in the fifth when Clayton Wyatt scored on a passed ball. The Falcons plated one more in the sixth, but the Marshals sealed the win in the seventh with a sacrifice fly from Henderson.
Next on the schedule for the Marshals are two games on Saturday in the Ohio County Classic against Ohio County and Union County.
