Crews report freezing rain in Crittenden, Livingston, Lyon, McCracken and Trigg counties

PADUCAH, Ky. (Jan. 5, 2025) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1 crews in multiple counties are out treating the roadways as some areas are seeing freezing rain early Sunday morning.

Snowfighters in Livingston and Lyon counties are seeing ice accumulation on trees and roadways are starting to get slick, especially on bridges and overpasses.

A Crittenden County crew is also reporting freezing rain. In McCracken and Trigg counties, crews have reported a change from freezing rain to rain, intermittently.

Trucks have been running this morning in Ballard, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, and Trigg counties, spraying salt brine on interstates and major highways, and spot-treating bridges and overpasses. Other District 1 crews are on standby if the weather takes a turn.

The KYTC District 1 Snow & Ice Team is monitoring weather conditions hour by hour and will adjust response strategies for area highway crews as needed.

Motorists are urged to use caution today and, if possible, avoid unnecessary travel.

Maintain a safe distance from snowplows and other heavy highway equipment and do not pass snowplows on the shoulder.
