
PADUCAH, Ky. (Jan. 5, 2025) – KY 131/Benton Road in Reidland is blocked by a downed tree at mile marker 3.7 near the Interstate 24 overpass.
The McCracken County Highway Maintenance Crew has been among the District 1 teams working to remove ice-laden trees that have fallen into roadways following today’s icing event.
Crews will remove the tree using an excavator and should have the roadway cleared by approximately 6 p.m.
Engineers say West Paducah has been the hardest hit area in McCracken County, with several downed trees needing to be cut and cleared from roadways this afternoon.
In an effort to clear and open highways as quickly as possible, crews across the district have cut up the downed trees and limbs, then pushed them to the side of the roadway.
Highway crews will return in a few days to remove those cut-up trees and limbs from right-of-way.

PADUCAH, Ky. (Jan. 5, 2025, 3:45pm) – KYTC District 1 crews in Crittenden, Livingston and Lyon counties are in clean-up mode following today’s winter storm and cutting down ice-laden trees that have fallen into the roadways.
Crews can hear trees popping as branches are weighted down with ice.
KYTC is working with local utility companies and fire departments to clear roadways as quickly and safely as possible when power lines are involved.
KY 819 in Lyon County is blocked near the 5 MM due to a tree tangled in a power line.
Another roadway in Lyon County that is impacted is KY 373.
KY 1271 in Lyon County is open at the 1 MM and the roadway is clear after a tree was removed earlier.
In most cases, the downed trees will be temporarily pushed off the side of the roadway to allow the roadway to reopen sooner and traffic to continue moving through the area. Crews will return in a few days to finish tree removal.
The Lyon County Maintenance Facility is currently without power.
