Lady Marshals win Caveland Classic Championship over Edmonson County

Four free throws in the final 12 seconds from Addi Wall and Skylar Waller lifted the Lady Marshals over Edmonson County to win the Rafferty’s Double Dogs Caveland Classic Championship by a final score of 50-48.

Waller, tournament MVP, led the Lady Marshals with 20 points followed by Kenlee Terry with 15, all from three-point range. Free throws made the difference in the win with the Lady Marshals hitting 12-of-14 while Edmonson County was 5-of-10.

The Lady Marshals led by one at 12-11 at the end of the first quarter then took a 25-21 lead at halftime.

Kennedi Swihart and Cariann Williams cut the Lady Marshals lead to one at 26-25 to start the second half. Terry’s fourth and fifth consecutive threes put them up 34-27 and they held onto a four-point lead at 41-37 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Cats took their first lead since the first quarter at 47-46 on a three by Swihart. With 24 seconds remaining, Edmonson County lost the ball out of bounds, giving the Lady Marshals an opportunity.

The Lady Marshals drew up a successful inbounds play with 12 seconds left on the clock. Wall was fouled and hit both at the line to put them up by one at 48-47. Waller was fouled following another out of bounds ball on the Lady Cats. She hit both for the 50-48 win.

Wall, Terry and Reed were selected to the All-Tournament Team and Waller was named Tournament MVP.

The Lady Marshals advanced to the championship game with wins over Todd County Central (66-24) and Hopkins County Central (65-47).
