Lady Marshals go 1-2 at Twelve Courts of Christmas in Kansas City

Skylar Waller led the Lady Marshals in their three games in Kansas City at the Twelve Courts of Christmas with a combined 57 points.

Marshall County’s Lady Marshals traveled to Kansas City, Missouri for the 4th Annual Twelve Courts of Christmas 2024 at Hy-Vee Arena. Over 160 teams from high schools representing 10 states makes it one of the largest holiday shootouts in the country.

The Lady Marshals faced three teams starting with North Kansas City on Thursday, losing 46-43 by a three-point buzzer beater. Friday they beat Blue Valley Northwest from Overland Park, Kansas 47-43 after finishing off the game on a 16-2 run. They suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday to a tough talented team from Alma, Arkansas 61-39.

Thursday, Dec. 19 vs. North Kansas City, Kansas
They Lady Marshals led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter against the Hornets and held a one points lead at 22-21 at halftime. Most of the second quarter scoring came from Skylar Waller and Addi Wall.

Early in the third quarter, Kenzlee Terry dropped in a three to put the Lady Marshals up 27-21 and they took their largest lead at 35-27 on a basket by Eden Sandlin. North Kansas City finished out the third quarter on a 6-0 run to trim the Lady Marshals lead down to two points at 35-33.

The Lady Marshals battled to maintain a slight lead through the fourth quarter until the Hornets tied it up at 43 on a three pointer by Macey Willmann. With 1.9 seconds on the clock and North Kansas City with the ball, Jaslene Butler hit a three to give the Hornets the 46-43 win.

Waller led Marshall County in scoring with 15 points while Willmann led North Kansas City with 12.

Friday, Dec. 20 vs. Blue Valley Northwest, Kansas
After a one point 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Marshals fell behind by five at 20-15 at halftime against Blue Valley Northwest. Skylar Waller put up 11 of their first half points.

Rylie Edwards scored the first four points of the second half to give the Huskies a 24-15 lead and they took their largest lead of 10 points at 27-17. Edwards and Eden Sandlin for the Lady Marshals exchanged three-pointers to end the third quarter on a 31-25 Blue Valley Northwest lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Huskies extended their lead out to 10 once again at 41-31 on another three-pointer by Edwards. Waller then took over and scored 10 points of the Lady Marshals 14-0 run that followed. Addi Wall had two points then scored off an assist by Jessica Reed to finish out the run and make it a 45-41 game.

Blue Valley Northwest trimmed it to two points before Waller, who was 6-of-6, finished it off at the free throw line to pick up the 47-43 win.

In his post-game comments to WCBL’s Jeff Waters, Head Coach Aaron Beth said he was proud of the guts and resilience his team showed and not giving up. Beth said, “It was an overall team win tonight. We’re still growing and learning.”

Waller led the Lady Marshals with 27 points. Gabi McFall had 18 for the Huskies and Edwards finished with 13.

Saturday, Dec. 21 vs. Alma, Arkansas
Against a very talented Alma team, the Lady Marshals trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half and the Lady Airedales held a 34-16 lead at halftime.

Alma utilized their excellent skills from three-point range to extend their lead to 55-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Marshall County outscored Alma 16-6 in the fourth quarter behind two threes from Waller and one by Kenzlee Terry to trim the Lady Airedales lead before falling 61-39.
