Calvert City, Ky. (Dec. 19, 2024) — Westlake Corporation’s Calvert City plant is proud to announce its charitable efforts aimed at supporting families in need and local nonprofits.
Through a series of generous initiatives, Westlake and its employees have made a significant impact on the community this year, with a special focus on providing food for local families and funding for nonprofit organizations.
“We believe that it’s our responsibility to help those who need it most, especially during the holiday season,” said David Huyck, Senior Director, Operations at Westlake Calvert City. “Our team is proud to come together each year to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors, and we are honored to support so many great local organizations that are making a real impact in our community.”
Food Drive for Local Families
Westlake has launched a large-scale food drive to help 150 families in the Calvert City area. Each family will receive $100 worth of food, totaling over $15,000 in support. The food packages were delivered on December 10 and 11, ensuring families have everything they need to enjoy a holiday meal. This initiative underscores Westlake’s commitment to addressing food insecurity in the region and bringing the community together during the holiday season.
Support for Local Nonprofits
In addition to the food drive, Westlake donated nearly $25,000 this year to nearly 60 local community nonprofits. This funding will help support a broad range of programs and services that benefit residents of Calvert City and the surrounding area. Among the recipients is The Carson Center, Paducah’s premier performing arts venue, which will receive a portion of the donation to help sustain its programming and outreach efforts.
“The generous donations from Westlake and its employees will have a lasting impact on our community,” said Mary Smith, Executive Director of The Carson Center. “We are incredibly grateful for their support, which helps us continue our mission of bringing the arts to the people of Western Kentucky.”
Commitment to Community
As a long-standing member of the Calvert City community, Westlake is dedicated to giving back through both financial support and volunteer efforts. The company’s employees have actively participated in organizing the food drive, with many volunteering their time to pack and deliver food to local families.
Westlake employees also participate in a reading buddy program with students at the Calvert City Elementary School. Through this initiative, they form meaningful connections with young learners, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. This program not only fosters a love of reading but also strengthens the bond between the local community and the company.
