Calvert City Pickleball players went to Fenton, Missouri to participate in the Missouri Pickleball (MPC) Thanksgiving Classic. This has become an annual tournament for the Thompson and Wilson families, arranging Thanksgiving meals around this tournament. The MPC indoor facility hosted 485 players competing on 18 courts.
This tournament started the Wednesday before Thanksgivings with Senior Doubles (50+60+), took turkey day off and proceeded Black Friday with Singles and Senior Mixed Doubles (50+60+), Saturday Men’s and Women’s Doubles (any age) and Sunday finishing with Mixed Doubles (any age).
It has always been a very competitive holiday tournament with some of the better players competing for trophies. Some events had as many as 30 teams. Brent Thompson and Jenny Hargrave went undefeated in 4.5/5.0 Mixed Doubles (50+60+) event to win Gold. Brigette Thompson and Kenzie Wilson went undefeated in a field of 11 in Women’s Doubles but fell in the gold medal winning Silver. Kevin Barrett won Silver in 3.5 Men’s Singles in a field of 22 teams. Brigette Thompson and Kevin Barrett placed 5th in 3.5 Mixed Doubles in a field of 28 teams. Sara Darling and Jason Bell placed 6th in 4.0 Mixed Doubles in a field of 28 teams. Other local players participating were Trish Jordan, Amanda Melton, Jennifer Wilson, Landon Wilson. Awesome playing by our local players.
