Lyles and Sutherland qualify for State Cross Country Championships

Addison Lyles finished second in Saturday’s Class 3A Region 1 meet at Marshall County High School and will advance to the State Cross Country Championships.

Marshall County High School was the site of the Region 1 Class 1A, 2A and 3A cross country meet on Saturday.

Marshall County’s Addison Lyles finished second in Class 3A and will advance to the KHSAA State Cross Country Championship along with Ava Sutherland who placed 18th. Lyles overtook Lucy Spaw of Daviess County to lead the race but the duel continued to the line with Spaw taking the win.

Lyles finished with a time of 19:53.00, less than six seconds behind Spaw who won with a time of 19:47.20.

Daviess County won the Region 1 team title placing seven in the top 10. Graves County finished runner up. Those two teams along with McCracken County in third, Owensboro who finish fourth and fifth place Muhlenberg County will automatically advance to state.

The state meet takes place on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
