
Marshall County’s Lady Marshals defeated Graves County 3-0 on Tuesday to advance to Thursday’s District 2 Championship. They will play the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between Murray and Calloway County.
Tuesday in Mayfield, the Lady Marshals led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Macy Scott off a corner kick by Rylee Teague.
At the midway point of the second half, a goal by Chaney Green put them up 2-0 and a minute later, Scott and Teague teamed up again in a repeat of their first half goal to pick up the 3-0 win.
Savannah Dodd had three saves and earned her 13th shutout of the season.
The Marshall County boys team played Murray in the first of two semifinals following the girl’s game. The second semifinal is Wednesday between Calloway County and Mayfield.
Murray will advance to Thursday’s title game after defeating the Marshals 6-0, ending the Marshals chances at a sixth straight District 2 title. Murray will be looking for their first district championship in 27 years.
The Tigers goals came from Nate Wyatt with three, two from Max Rosa and Jimm Kjellberg had one. Goalkeeper Hank Fronza had four saves. Carson Lovett had four saves for the Marshals.
Marshall County will move on to regional tournament play next week.
