It wasn’t Friday night lights, but in a game moved due to the remnants of Hurricane Helene, Saturday proved to be very successful for the Marshals who shutout Muhlenberg County 33-0 in their Homecoming game. The win marks their first 5A District 1 win and they improve to 3-3.
Muhlenberg County recovered their onside kick to start the game but forced to punt, gave the Marshals the opportunity to cover 80 yards and score on a 54-yard touchdown run by Jake Thomasson. The extra point attempt failed but they were on the board leading 6-0.
An interception by Deegan Coley in the second quarter set up the Marshals second touchdown. Neyland Jezik connected with Cash Henson for the 24-yard score and with the PAT the lead was 13-0.
With just seconds on the clock in the third quarter, the Marshals sacked the Muhlenberg County quarterback and forced a fumble setting up Thomasson’s second touchdown and a 20-0 lead. The quarter ended on an interception of the Mustangs by Dylan Robinson.
Kolt Lindsey scored to open the fourth quarter following the interception and the Marshals lead was 27-0.
In the closing two minutes of the game, Kayson Holland scored to put the Marshals up 33-0 to earn their third win of the season.
Marshall County will play Owensboro (3-3) at home on Friday. The Marshals will be looking for their second district win. Owensboro has two district wins over Graves County (42-7) and Apollo (28-6).
