Calvert City pickleball players compete in Professional Pickleball Association CIBC Atlanta Slam

Calvert City Pickleball players went to Atlanta, Georgia to participate in one of the PPA (Professional Pickleball Association) stops, The PPA CIBC Atlanta Slam September 9-15.  There are 26 PPA stops across the US and Pro players, amateur players and spectators flock to watch the World’s Best pickleball.  The top professional pickleball players in the world #1 female, Anna Leigh Waters, and #1 male, Ben Johns, along with crowd pleasers Tyson McGuffin, JW Johnson, Jorja Johnson, Dylan Frazier, Anna Bright, Catherine Parenteau, just to name a few showed up to thrill the fans.

Events were held at the LifeTime Peachtree Corners luxury health club featuring 40 courts. With over 1200 entries, players competed in Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Friday was Men’s and Women’s (any age) Doubles play day. Friday the 13th wasn’t the best weather day for outside pickleball. Rain from Hurricane Francine forced cancellation of several events that couldn’t be moved inside.

Local players having a great showing were Jennifer Wilson and Brent Thompson both winning medals in Singles and Mixed Doubles, Jason Jones medaling in Doubles with Dax Myhand and Mixed Doubles with partner Sara Darling.

Gold Medal Winners:
Jennifer Wilson – 3.5 Women’s Singles 35-49 years

Silver Medal Winners:
Jennifer Wilson and Brent Thompson – 4.5 Mixed Doubles 35-49 years
Brent Thompson – 4.0 Men’s Singles 50-59 years
Jason Jones and Dax Myhand – 3.5 Men’s Doubles 50-59 years
Jason Jones and Sara Darling – 3.5 Mixed Doubles 35-49 years
