
Marshall County and Murray High played for the Second District title last season in a game that ended in penalty kicks with the Tigers getting the 1-0 win. With most of that team returning, Murray is living up to their position as pre-season favorite after extending their undefeated record to 9-0 with Thursday’s 3-0 win over the Marshals.
Murray now with the upper hand in the race to the number one seed in the district while the Marshals drop to 4-4-1 and 1-3 in the district.
Murray seniors Jimmy Kjellberg and Max Rosa scored goals in the first half to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead at halftime. Ben Burkeen added the third goal in the second half for the 3-0 win.
The Marshals struggled to get any shots on frame while Murray had 12 of their 25 shots taken on goal. Goalkeeper Carson Lovett had seven saves for the Marshals.
The Marshals will play at Paducah Tilghman on Tuesday before another opportunity against Murray at home on Thursday.
