Yates takes first in Marshall County cross country season opener

Junior Kobey Yates, pictured during the 2023 cross country season, opened the 2024 season on Saturday with a first place finish in the Wildcat CHS Invitational in Clarksville.

Marshall County’s Kobey Yates won the varsity boys 5000 meter cross country race at the Wildcats CHS Invitational on Saturday. Yates crossed the line with a time of 17:23.50, over 22 seconds ahead of second place Noah Smith from Wilson Central High School in the field of 148 runners.

Daniel Walker placed eighth for the Marshals, stopping the clock at 18:41.00. Owen Futrell placed in the top 25 with a time of 19:50.10. As a team, the Marshals placed fifth. The rest of the Marshall County results were as follows.

Ava Sutherland had the top results for the girls’ team with a sixth place finish in 24:01.40 and Braelyn Spalding placed 27th with a time of 27:07.70 in the field of 64 runners. The girls placed fourth in the meet. The rest of the Marshall County results were as follows.
