Work zone in place from 8 a.m., to 3 p.m., Thursday
PADUCAH, Ky. (July 17, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans a work zone lane restriction and 8 ft. load width restriction on the U.S. 62 Cumberland River “Eureka Highway” Bridge at Lake City on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
This work zone at Lyon County mile point 0.0 and Livingston County mile point 2.852 in Lake City is to allow concrete deck repairs on the U.S. 62 Cumberland River Bridge at the Livingston-Lyon County Line.
The 8 ft. load width restriction is due to the placement of equipment on the bridge deck to facilitate the repairs to the concrete driving surface.
Motorists should be alert for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers from 8 a.m., CDT, to 3 p.m., Thursday. Some delays are possible during the movement and placement of equipment to facilitate the work.
Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and inspection personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
This work is scheduled on a weather-permitting basis. KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely updates should a schedule change be required.
The U.S. 62 Cumberland River Bridge, which also carries U.S. 641, is at the Livingston-Lyon County Line immediately below Barkley Dam at Lake City, KY.
The 1,466 ft. cantilevered Warren through truss bridge with a 700 ft. main span was opened to traffic in 1952. Also, known as The Blue Bridge and the Eureka Highway Bridge, the structure carries approximately 5,700 vehicles across the Cumberland River in an average day.
The bridge is at U.S. 62 Livingston County mile point 2.852 and Lyon County mile point 0.0. The Eureka Highway Bridge is located at Cumberland River navigation mile point 30.0.
